Kia ora koutou,
I have just updated the team blog and there is a lot of important information contained on there pertaining to this week. Thank you so much to everyone who has booked a learning conference time. I still have approximately five whanau left to book so hope to confirm this asap. If you are finding it tricky to commit to a time then I am happy to do your childs conference over the phone.
Our influential people projects are due tomorrow and many of the students have been regularly sharing their learning with me via Google Drive. I will be giving the children a research project each term as the skills involved are necessary at high school and beyond. In class we have been focusing on note taking, working in teams and gathering information from different sources. It will be neat to see the children progress in these skills each term and projects are a great opportunity for whanau to get involved in your child's learning. The key ingredient though is choosing a topic that you are passionate about. These projects will be shared with me tomorrow and I will give each of the students feedback and feedforward so they know what to do next term.
Congratulations to Sonny for his recent Special Olympics results. Well done Sonny!
Well done to Bayley, Anna, Charles, McKenzie and Tori who were a part of our Turanganui Extension Writing group. I will share some of the students work on our blog this week. As you would have read on our team blog there will be further extension groups picked from the start of next term.
Congratulations to Daelyn, Taimana and Tamati who travelled to the BOP last week for touch. These boys were all awarded their leadership badge at Friday afternoon's assembly and Mr Udall paid a special mention to Daelyn for the sportsmanship he displayed when one of his opponents needed assistance mid game. Mr Udall was really impressed with the integrity Daelyn showed - Awesome work tama ma! Thanks also to Koka Trace, Matua Puri, Mr Barclay, Mr Hooper and Matua Dwayne Russell for training our teams to get ready for this competition.
Our class reports went home last Friday but if your child did not manage to get theirs then they will bring theirs home tomorrow. Their mark in relation to the national standards is based on the start of year assessments that have been done to date. We will be discussing these at this week's learning conferences as well as setting some goals for the remainder of the year. We will also celebrate your childs all round progress since starting at Gisint. See you all soon!
