Welcome to week 4

 Kia ora koutou,

Hope you all had a relaxing weekend!Well the countdown is on and camp prep is in its final stages. I hope you are all looking forward to camp as much as I am, it's going to be massive!
Please also check the syndicate blog as there is important info that relates to all of us as a syndicate.

Thanks to all of our awesome Dads and role models who stayed the night or who attended our Turanganui syndicate sleepover last Friday. I look forward to hearing more about the highlights tomorrow and we will be holding a girls evening in the near future too.

I would like to acknowledge the fantastic leadership shown by Kia Manuel, Taimana Teneti, Tamati Ingram, Andre Tangaroa, Lena Baty-Akurangi, Raewyn Edwards and Sonny Perston at kapa haka last week. With our year 8's at tech the year 7's put their hands up to lead the rest of the school and did a wonderful job too along with Vaelyn, Paige and Hayley from room 24. Tau ke koutou katoa!

Due to our year 7's having tech in the afternoon we did not attend the year 7 assembly.

Here are a few reminders for the week:

Donut orders are due back tomorrow please. $2 per donut. So...if you purchase two you get
your Mindlab for this term paid for and you get to share or enjoy a delicious treat too!

If for some reason you missed the notice on Friday, that's okay just bring along the money for your order and we will fill one out in the morning.
For those families that have an AP running with the office this is completely optional. A treat is always nice but if you choose not to purchase any that is fine too. We just wanted to find ways to ease the financial pressure on our families as well as to get our kids to work for their extras.

Camp helper hui tomorrow night in our room. This starts at 5:15pm and will only take about half an hour. See all of you amazing parent helpers there! This camp wouldn't happen without you all so your commitment is hugely appreciated by the Turanganui teachers and tamariki.

Camp Gear list is on our Syndicate blog and a hard copy went home on Friday. Check it out and get packing! It may also be an idea to pop in a pair of rock shoes if you have them. The children have been completing Pre Camp Risk assessments which will be displayed on their blogs this week. The students will also be displaying their latest writing assessments in the near future and would love for you to give them some feedback too.

Syndicate Triathlon is on this Friday beginning at 11am. The order of events is listed on our team blog.
We would love whanau support on the day so if you have a spare hour or two the tamariki would enjoy having you there to watch them. The students will be in teams from within the syndicate. If you have access to a bike please have it ready to bring. If you don't have one we have a plan to swap with Y8's and vice versa as they go separately.

All Turanganui Taonga are strongly encouraged to complete the individual and team events either competitively or in order to meet their own personal challenge. It will be a great morning for all.

Camp Hui 5:15pm on Monday for all Camp helpers

Kia ora koutou,

I have updated our Turanganui blog with important info re cap and our donut fundraiser to cover our Mindlab trip this term.

Thanks you to all of our room 22 whanau who have indicated that you can come to camp this year - we know you will love the experience as much as us. Your children will be completing a camp risk assessment doc that they will embed on their blogs today at school and they can go through these with you at home. Please encourage them with their blogging by regularly visiting their page and leaving them comments or if you do not have internet access at home pop into school sometime and check all of their online work out.

Hope you've all pencilled in next Friday for the Turanganui Tri. This will start at 11am on the back field and all of our Turanganui students will complete the individual event and team too. Yesterday we did a practise run-swim component and all of the children based at school completed that with ease. If your child does not have bike for the individual they will buddy with a year 8 and vice versa. Look forward to seeing lots of you there to cheer on our children. The course is 1 x run lap, 2 x cycle laps, 2 x laps of the school pool. Thanks in advance for ensuring your child is able to meet another Gisint Challenge - all students will be setting their own goal for this event on their blog.

Have a great weekend

Another awesome day in Turanganui

Kia ora koutou,
We had an awesome day today with half of our class completing the historical walk around Gisborne. The students were able to link this learning to their prior knowledge as well as the 'Our Place' and 'Horouta' lessons that we undertook last week.

Our class has tech tomorrow and Friday morning so all students will need to ensure their gear, their togs and towels, their PE gear and any notices are returned in the morning. Don't fundraiser forms and a latest camp notice will definitely be coming home tomorrow. A friendly reminder that music tuition notices must be returned to the office by this Thursday 18th February.

Have a great week
Ana

Welcome to week 3

Rooms 22 and 24 enjoying our first game of a Gisint classic 'Magic Potion' last Friday. This is a Gisint favourite and will be played on camp and at school.

Kia ora koutou,

I hope you are all enjoying this beautiful Gizzy weather outside with your whanau. We are truly blessed to live in paradise.

Thank you all for attending last weeks Meet the Teacher evening. It was a pleasure meeting you all and I look forward to working with you throughout the year. Please take a moment to give us some feedback on our night

You may notice on the side panel of this blog that a fourth Gisint value 'Excellence' has been added which is an exciting addition because our four school values now create the acronym 'RISE' - Respect, Integrity, Self Management and Excellence which fit perfectly with our school vision which is to 'Grow Great People'. The children are already becoming familiar with and using this terminology and each week our team will have a focus on these terms as well as our Turanganui Core Values of Kotahitanga - Unity, Whakawhanaungatanga - Relationships and Manaakitanga - Caring for others.

Introducing two more awesome 22'ers from our room who are settling into Gisint life like pro's and already grasping a number of opportunities.

Hikurangi Reid - Te Hapara School

McKenzie Pepere - Te Hapara School

I have updated our team blog with essential information for the week ahead so please check that out carefully.

Last week one of students had his scooter removed from our cloak bay. Unfortunately I was not made

aware of this until a couple of days later but I am hopeful that someone knows something and we can return this scooter to it's owner. Please email me if you have any queries or concerns as the faster I know, the faster I can sort things.

I continue to be impressed with the fantastic children in our room. Their organisation and attitude toward their learning and each other is exactly what we want at Gisint.

Congratulations to our first class assembly certificate recipients Latrelle Rangirangi and Jazmine Manuel. Both of these students have lovely, respectful and caring personalities and have been completing excellent schoolwork in and out of class. I will be showcasing our students work on our blog and the students will be setting up their own blogs this week to regularly share their class learning with home. Please leave comments to encourage your child and let them know that you are following their work.

Thanks to everyone who has been returning their notices. More camp information will come home tomorrow. If you need assistance with paying the $90 camp fee please email me or send a note to school. Please confirm your availability for camp by completing this Parent Helper Form

Your child will be bringing home a Sugar Kitchen Donut fundraiser form to sell Cinnamon Donuts that will be delivered next week. This fundraiser is to cover their term 1 Mindlab trip and go toward the materials for their Turanganui Taonga that they will be making. We are very conscious of how expensive this time of year is for our whanau so we want the children to assist you by helping out and getting something back in return. By selling 2 donuts alone they cover their Mindlab cost and get two donuts to eat or share too. All money and orders need to be in by Friday.

If you have any other queries, please feel free to email. I will update our class and team blog throughout the week so you stay in touch with what is happening in our team. Don't forget you can also access our school daily notices via one of the tabs at the top of our team and class blog - this is where the children find out what opportunities are on offer that week.

Finally, congratulations to our class swimming sports representatives, Attlee Waitoa, McKenzie Pepere, Hikurangi Reid, Charles Te Puni, Taimana Teneti, Tamati Ingram, Lena Baty-Akurangi and Jazmine Manuel who did us proud at Friday's swimming sports. We will be organising ourselves this week for our Turanganui Triathlon scheduled for next Friday at 11am. Whanau are most welcome to come along and support our children.

Kind regards

Koka Ana

Kia ora koutou,

I had an awesome first week @Gisint with my 33 new year 7's who have settled into life @Gisint with ease.

We spent last week getting to each other and the other students and teachers in our syndicate. We established our class treaty, have started a piece of writing entitled 'I am from', began an art piece that will be up for display on Wednesday night, familiarised ourselves with our Gisint expectations and rewards systems.

We can't wait to head to Omaio Bay for camp in week 5 so we can continue to solidify our class and team culture and experience the great outdoors. I would really appreciate all of the notices that went home last week returned as soon as possible so I can continue to plan for our various term 1 excursions. Thank you in advance for this and for the swift return last week of our Food Tech Questionnaire, Preferred contact forms and e-Learning agreements.

If your child has returned their e-Learning agreement they may start to use the computers on Tuesday and bring along their own device if they have one. ICT will play a large part of our classroom programme so whilst not essential, a device will be used daily if your child has their own.

Tech starts on Thursday and Friday of this week. Please make sure your child has covered shoes (Can be running shoes or sneakers) for cooking and woodwork. Here is a list of where our children are starting tech and what they need to bring. Each cycle is approximately 6-7 weeks long.

                       .

Have a wonderful week and see you all at Meet the Teacher on Wednesday.
